When I first visited Japan 7 years ago they had these on all the product packages and advertisements and I thought they were so technologically advanced. now they're popping up in Australia but my mobile phone is too old to read them.
I will take a guess at the secret instead. You have an illegitimate love-child who lives in the far North, in some sort of blizzard, and send them regular care packages of hot chocolate and fluffy socks.
Basically, if you've never seen this before you wouldn't know what it is at all. If you right-clicked the image to view the link, you'd see that I name it qrcode.
Once you knew that, all you had to do was google it! :)

there are places on the internet where you can create your own barcodes (you can choose to make different kinds)

and then there are places where you can upload barcodes and the site will decode them for you!
